Wife by Donna Butler

One day I will be someone

I will be someone’s one

I will change my identity

But I will not be His property

A silver band with a small stone

Tells others I am not my own

The wait until the bonds are tied

Are shown only on one side

It will be all change for me

Written on forms for all to see

He will catty on the same

But it is not him who is to blame

We must be paired to go through life

And be referred to as trouble and strife

A tradition that has carried through

I didn’t think I would until I met you

The day has come, you in suit and tie

I feel so happy that when I die

I will go into the afterlife

Elated in the knowledge I am your wife
